What is Elder Orphans? Madera County has implemented a state-of-the-art calling service for senior citizens who live alone and wish to receive daily house checks. The telephonic messaging system is offered to people who are trying to maintain an independent life but would feel more secure knowing help is only a phone call away. When will Elder Orphans be used? Elder Orphans delivers daily pre-recorded messages to your home with instructions to press #1 indicating you are fine. If you don’t answer after several attempts, a deputy sheriff or citizen volunteer will be dispatched to check on you. Please call 559-675-7976.
What happens if I don’t answer the phone?
If the client does not answer after a preset number of calls, the Sheriff’s Emergency Dispatch Center will dispatch a deputy sheriff or Citizen on Patrol to conduct a welfare check at that location. If the client leaves town, vacation stop-start information must be placed in your profile so that the Sheriff’s Office will temporarily stop calling the client’s residence during that time period.
What if my phone number or address changes? The system is only as good as the information you provide. If there are changes then you must go into your profile and make the correction or call (559) 675-7976 and we will make the change for you. Is there a fee for this service? This service is free to all Madera County residents. However if a cellular phone is used, your cellular company will charge you standard usage fees. Madera County is not responsible for any charges that may be incurred as a result of receiving these alert on your cell phone. Will my contact information be shared with others? No. The information that you provide will be used for notification purposes only. We will not give or sell your telephone numbers or email addresses to any vendor or other organization.
